The essential carry-on packing list

It’s time to pack for your next trip — how exciting! We’ve compiled a few lists of some items to include in your carry-on(s), whether a personal item (purse, laptop bag) or a carry-on. Make sure to check the measurements of your carry-on with the airline(s) you are flying with to prevent having to pay for a checked bag. 

The essentials — put in your personal item

No matter how far you’re traveling, these items are always key to have in your carry-on. 

  • Government-issued ID

  • Prescription medications and/or vitamins

  • Over the counter medications

  • Portable charger

  • Hand sanitizer spray or wipes

  • Empty water bottle 

  • Earbuds/headphones

  • Pair of socks

  • Eye mask

  • Ear plugs

  • Lip balm

  • Eyeglasses and/or sunglasses

  • E-reader or book/magazine

  • Motion sickness remedies - over-the-counter medicines, wristbands, patches, ginger

  • Kleenex

  • Gum and/or mints

For your carry-on
If you’re traveling internationally, double-check this list before your travels. There are items listed that you can’t find at an airport gift shop that are essential to your acceptance into the country and your comfort. 

  • Passport *International travel

  • Travel documents for entry and processing — accommodation details, proof of return flight, VISA application, etc. *International travel

  • Cash - US currency and some of the country you’re traveling to *International travel

  • Compression socks for long flights

  • Bag of toiletries to help freshen up between flights or on a long flight

  • Airtag to keep track of your bag

  • A warm layer - sweatshirt, wrap, cardigan, light jacket, blanket

  • Travel pillow

  • Change of clothing - you never know if your luggage will arrive with you, so keep an extra set of clothes with you
